In this short tutorial I'll show how to run Lua programs from C and C++ and howto expose functions to them. It's easy!

Update: The code in this post has been updated for Lua 5.2.4. I haven'tchecked if the Lua 5.3 C API is backwards-compatible with 5.2. All the codehere is available on GitHub.

The first program will just create a Lua state object and exit. It will be ahybrid between C and C++. Since the two languages must include different files,we need to discern between them by checking for the existence of the__cplusplus macro.

Notice that I'm being explicit about which version of Lua I'm using in thecode. If you trust that the Lua developers care about compatibility, you canjust #include <lua.hpp> and so on directly.

The purpose of the program is just to make sure that we can compile, link andrun it without errors.

Shimeji is a free program that creates a small mascot to walk around your desktop, generally causing mischief. You can download the original program here. There is also an english codefork here, if all the Japanese intimidates you.
By replacing the images in the img folder with your own, you can create your own desktop mascots. I wrote a more detailed tutorial on how to do that here. Upon finding this out I immediately started making zombie ones because I have a problem.

TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THESE SHIMEJIS

1. Download the rar of your choice.
2. Double click the downloaded .rar file and a new window should pop up with a 'Shimeji_Hunterzombie1.7' folder. If that doesn't happen, you need an extractor like Winrar or 7zip
3. There should be a button in your program saying something like 'extract to'. Click it, and specify an easy to remember location. This should extract the whole folder to this location (MAKE SURE YOU EXTRACT THE WHOLE FOLDER, NOT JUST THE EXE FILE)
3. Go to the folder and doubleclick shimeji.exe (or shimeji.jar, i heard that works too). The shimeji should fall on your desktop.
4. To remove the program, delete the folder.

If you get an error message in Japanese, your java is not up to date. You can download an update for that here, I've heard. Shimeji is designed to work on Windows, but there have been workarounds made for Macs! You can read more about Mac Shimejis at this page, although be warned, I can't help you too much with this since I don't have a Mac. As far as I can tell though, basically download the Mac template Shimeji, then replace the /conf/ and /img/ folders of the template with the /conf/ and /img/ folders of the Shimeji you want to use.

If you do decide to remove the flyaways, I’d suggest to go as natural as possible. Using the clone or spot removal tool can easily help you clean up 1 or 2, but if you have a bunch of them, that’s where this trick can come in handy.

Click on the lasso tool on the left side of your screen (arrow points at it below) Once you do that, a button will pop up at the top that says, select subject. Click there.

Now, most of the time, Photoshop will do a pretty good job at this. But if you photo is super busy in the background, this might not be the easiest option. Look at how Photoshop specifically selects around the hair. If it doesn’t do a great job, try it again and see if the selection improves.

Right click on the inside of your selection. A Pop up window will come up. Select “feather”. I have found setting this to 15 has given me the best results, but play around with this number. By feathering your selection you will find a smoother and more natural looking transition rather than a super straight edge around the hair.

After you select and set the feather, click again and this time click “select inverse”

Finally

Grab the clone tool on the left side and sample areas close to the flyaways by clicking the alt key. Bring the clone tool over the fly aways. Click Control + D to deselect your subject and your done!

I eventually did feel guilty enough to replace all of my profile pictures with the unedited images – they looked more like me, anyway. And the skin-so-smooth-I-haven’t-actually-had-that-since-I-was-seven was starting to annoy me.

But one night as I was lying in bed, recovering from a day of motherhood, I had a moment of curiosity: how far could I edit a photo? How far could anyone edit a photo? What are people truly capable of before publishing their Instagram selfies?

The above photos were taken by a professional photographer, in the right lighting, after I’d applied my makeup as perfectly as I could and brushed my hair just so. My hair was even enjoying a fresh cut and color from the day before.

It’s one thing to edit a photo that was already as good as I could look.

But could I edit a photo that was as bad as I could look?

I felt like the limits of iPhone editing needed to be tested – and it might as well be me.

So I took the worst photo I could, using the following “features” to make it especially bad:

– I used my iPhone’s front facing camera – those are always the worst, especially when shooting faces.

– The lighting was dim and atrocious.

– I was laying down, spreading my jowls out like the picnic table benches of my face.

– No makeup, obviously – and a real nice scab. Everyone needs a facial scab to look like the mugshot version of themselves.

– I was super tired, and it showed.

– I didn’t smile. Because this was supposed to be a challenge, after all.

10. I used “Patch” on my left eyebrow, making it proportional in length with the other eyebrow – it has always been short on the inside.

  R4i SDHC Description: The next Generation of the R4 DS Card. The R4i SDHC for DSi Takes over for the Nintendo DSi where the R4 DS is for the Nintendo DS. Fully backwards compatible to the NDS and NDS Lite, the R4i SDHC was designed and made for the new Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL (LL) console.

  Nintendo DS and 3DS storage devices are used to store a licensed developer's work-in-progress images, homebrew video games, and downloaded commercial games (since the Nintendo DS is not sold with a rewritable storage medium). Licensed developers, however, can use a blue Intelligent Systems Nitro Emulator box to flash cards. These devices are also known as 'flashcarts' or 'flashcards'. There are two main classes of flashcarts: older devices which fit in Slot-2 (the Game Boy Advance Game Pak slot) and newer devices that fit in Slot-1 (the DS Game Card slot). Slot-2 (or first-generation) devices have been historically cheaper due to economies of scale (inherited from their use with Game Boy Advance), but require a booting tool in Slot-1 in order to use the touch screen and other DS features. Second-generation devices (those which only use Slot-1) do not work with GBA homebrew, but as of 2007 became less expensive and easier to use, rivaling many Slot-2 devices in price.

  First-generation devices include GBA flash cartridges, GBAMP CF, SuperCard, and M3. Second-generation devices include R4 Revolution, CycloDS, G6 Real and DS-X. Many of these devices also work with the Nintendo 3DS as DS flash cartridges, allowing DS ROM backups to run in game consoles of the Nintendo 3DS line. There are also flash cartridges made exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS, such as the Gateway 3DS and Sky3DS, which allow 3DS ROM backups to run in these systems. The storage device either contains flash memory or a slot for a memory card to store homebrew. Storage devices with a memory-card slot usually have more storage capacity than flash-memory devices. Although flash-memory capacity is usually measured in megabits (Mb), memory-card capacity is usually measured in megabytes (MB) (where 8 Mb is 1 MB).

  Storage-device brands differ in their support for homebrew; DS, 3DS and Game Boy Advance ROMs; special features (such as ability to play media files); physical size and cost. Strictly speaking, a storage device is not necessary for DS with FlashMe installed because homebrew can be sent to the DS using Wireless Multiboot or WMB. However, this is not an easily portable method because the DS needs to be within range of a suitable Wi-Fi card.

  GBA flash cartridge[edit]

  The first method of storing homebrew applications for the Nintendo DS was the use of flash cartridges designed for the Game Boy Advance. These were effective in finding exploits, since they are a 32 MiB block of rewritable flash memory directly accessible by both CPUs of the Nintendo DS. Users of GBA homebrew tended to use GBA methods for DS homebrew as well; however, the limited storage space, variety and price of GBA flash cartridges make them unsuitable for new users. Since there were many types of flash cartridges (each with its own method for writing to the flash ROM), most homebrew programs only supported saving to the included 64 KiB of SRAM intended for game-saving.

  After the creation of DLDI this was no longer a problem, and any program from 2007 or later works with any flashcart. This method of storage does not work with the Nintendo DSi, since it does not have a GBA slot.

  GBA Movie Player[edit]

  The GBA Movie Player (GBAMP) is a CompactFlash adapter for the Game Boy Advance. It supports playing music and movies; NES and Game Boy games (under 200kb) and Game Boy Advance games (under 256kb) from the CF card, and reading text files. Its low price and simple design make it suitable for DS homebrew. Hacked firmware is available, adding the ability to run DS homebrew while maintaining the GBA features. This is the most widely supported homebrew device; nearly every homebrew which writes to the storage medium supports it. There are three versions of the GBAMP: a large pass-through device (version 1), a small white-and-red cartridge (version 2) and a slightly smaller SD card version (version 2 SD). Version 2 has the most support.

  SuperCard and M3 Perfect[edit]

  Supercard and M3 Perfect are similar devices to the GBA Movie Player, with more features. M3 is made by the developers of GBAMP. Both contain a CompactFlash, Secure Digital, miniSD, or Transflash slot, and 32 MB of built-in RAM. They offer GBAMP's features, in addition to the ability to play all GBA games and homebrew with the built-in RAM as a flash cartridge. They can also play DS backups by using sequential reading (SuperCard's built-in RAM, however, is too slow to play some GBA games accurately). Some DS homebrew also uses this additional RAM; however, addressing issues and speed make it less useful than the DS' built-in memory.

  

  SuperCard and M3 Perfect are more expensive than GBAMP (M3 more so than SuperCard), and not as well supported by homebrew. Most homebrew encounters difficulty writing to SD cards; the more complex and proprietary protocols used with SD were reverse engineered later than the well-known CF protocol. The SuperCard has full support for booting DS game backups (no problems with saving or booting, a cheat system and rumble support); however, the SuperCard only has partial support for DS Download (some games freeze on loading). Variations on these devices have been released, such as SuperCard Rumble and M3 Pro. Some feature a smaller size, which better fits the DS Lite to a reduction of the built-in RAM.

  MAX Media Player[edit]

  The MAX Media Player (not to be confused with Max Media Launcher, a NoPass device) is similar to the GBA Movie Player, but does not function in GBA mode.^{[citation needed]} Although it is the easiest device to find (the only DS homebrew device sold in major retail stores, such as Wal-Mart) its price, power consumption and poor homebrew support make it unsuitable. Its primary attraction is the ability to play DS game backups (through homebrew known as Maximum Overload, although all DS storage devices may be used for this purpose).   Motivating employees to complete their work correctly and on time is one of the major tasks of management. Changing an employee's perception of his place within a company is sometimes an effective way of improving organizational behavior constructively. Employees who perceive that they have a greater control over their work lives will likely be more motivated to excel within the organizational structure.

  Social Perception

  Social perception, or the way one individual views others, affects behavior within an organization. Management expert Joseph Champoux writes in his book 'Organizational Behavior' that an individual's social perception can be described in terms of a 'target,' or what is being perceived, and a 'stimulus threshold,' a certain level of information that must be received in order to make a perceptive assumption on an individual, work process or any other target. Wrongful social perceptions, such as fundamental attribution error that arises when one person mistakes another person's characteristics as the cause of a negative event, can lead to problems in organizational behavior.

  It is management that regulates man's productive activities through coordinated use of material resources. Without the leadership provided by management, the resources of production remain resources and never become production. Management is the integrating force in all organized activity.

  Perceptions Affecting Motivation

  A worker's social perception of others within the organization can affect his motivation to complete work effectively to a large degree. Motivation within an organization remains high if a worker perceives that there are opportunities for personal development or professional advancement, if he feels capable of completing tasks correctly and is involved with various organizational decision-making and goal-setting processes. Motivation can be reduced if the worker perceives a lack of opportunity for growth, a lack of involvement or a lack of opportunities to demonstrate any creativity. This holds true in volunteer organizations as well, as described in Miami University's student leadership material, 'Why Volunteers/Group Members Lose Interest.'

  Changing Perceptions to Improve Motivation

  Worker output and motivation can be affected by changing the working conditions that are causing negative organizational behaviors. Reducing the size of work groups may allow an employee to feel as though he has a greater input in the work output. Providing time for easy social interaction can improve social intimacy among coworkers and help produce a camaraderie that improves work interactions. Managers must work hard to control their own perceptions of their employees, withholding their own evaluative judgments until they gain adequate information about an employee's work performance.
